Dr. Mohomad Al-Sawah brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Epic Foot & Ankle. Originally from New York, Dr. Al-Sawah completed his undergraduate studies at the City University of New York at Brooklyn College before pursuing his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He is certified in both Foot and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Dr. Al-Sawah’s dedication to excellence is evident in his extensive training and commitment to patient care. He completed his residency in podiatric medicine and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield and Novi, Michigan, where he served as the chief podiatric surgery resident. Throughout his residency, he gained invaluable experience in treating a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including sports-related injuries, fractures, arthritis, bunions, hammertoes, and diabetic foot complications.
In addition to his residency training, Dr. Al-Sawah has pursued advanced education through post-graduate courses focused on arthroscopy, trauma, osteosynthesis, and surgical reconstruction of the diabetic foot and ankle, including limb salvage. He is skilled in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, offering comprehensive care to patients of all ages. Dr. Al-Sawah currently holds a teaching faculty position at Ascension Providence Hospital where he is actively involved in resident education and research.
Dr. Al-Sawah is deeply committed to exploring conservative treatment options before recommending surgery, ensuring that each patient receives personalized care tailored to their unique needs. Dr. Alex Dandashly
Dr. Dandashly is extremely devoted to serving the community and takes great pride in treating patients as his own family. Growing up, education, hard work and strong values were emphasized at home which translated to his strong work ethic and passion for patient care.
Dr. Dandashly received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical physics from Wayne State University, where he excelled in research and publications. While at Wayne State University, he spent time volunteering at the Detroit Medical Center, where he developed an appreciation for giving back to communities in need. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Ohio, graduating in the top 10% of his class. Post graduate training brought him back home to Detroit to complete a rigorous three-year surgical residency focusing on reconstructive rear foot/ankle training at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University and Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak.
He received extensive and specialized training in foot and ankle trauma, adult and pediatric reconstructive surgery, and diabetic limb salvage. His training was supplemented with rotations in internal medicine, infectious diseases, vascular surgery, emergency medicine, general surgery, and orthopedic trauma at a level 1 institute. Dr. Dandashly prides himself on treating patients of all ages, as his training also included rotations in pediatric orthopedic surgery at DMC Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Dandashly has special surgical interest in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, flatfoot, fracture, arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. He has completed hundreds of successful surgeries in his career and is heavily involved in residency training programs to train future physicians. Outside of work, Dr. Dandashly enjoys traveling, spending quality time with family and friends and trying different cultural cuisines. He loves spending time with his two boys and his better half, his wife Sara, who is also a pharmacist. Dr. Dandashly and Sara together share great pride and passion helping others with their respective expertise in medicine to improve the health of their patients.
Dr. Hassan Alkhalil
Born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan, Dr. Hassan Alkhalil’s journey to becoming a trusted foot and ankle surgeon is deeply rooted in his local community. From his early education at Divine Child High School to his rigorous medical training, Dr. Alkhalil’s commitment to excellence has always been unwavering. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Dr. Alkhalil pursued further academic enrichment by earning his Masters in Biomedical Sciences from Midwestern University in the suburbs of Chicago. He then attended Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.
Dr. Alkhalil then went on to complete a rigorous three-year surgical residency at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield and Novi, Michigan. Throughout his residency, he honed his skills in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, with a special focus on diabetic limb salvage, minimally invasive surgery, and sports medicine. This intensive training equipped him with the expertise to address a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, ensuring comprehensive care for his patients.

Dr. Samuel Austin

Dr. Austin, a proud Metro Detroit native, brings unmatched expertise and commitment to podiatric care. Raised in St. Clair Shores, MI, he graduated from De La Salle Collegiate High School before earning a degree in Human Biology from Michigan State University. He continued his education at the renowned Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, IL, where he laid the foundation for his distinguished career in foot and ankle medicine.
Following medical school, Dr. Austin completed an intensive surgical residency at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield-Novi, MI, specializing in rearfoot and ankle reconstruction, limb salvage, and trauma. His exceptional skill, dedication, and leadership earned him the title of chief resident in his final year.
Dr. Austin is board-certified in both Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery. His advanced expertise includes primary and revisional total ankle replacement, establishing him as a leader in cutting-edge surgical techniques. As a testament to his proficiency, Dr. Austin serves as a board certification examiner, upholding the highest standards in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Passionate about education, Dr. Austin remains deeply involved with the Ascension Providence residency program, mentoring aspiring podiatric surgeons and fostering the next generation of leaders in his field. His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, elective forefoot and rearfoot procedures, sports medicine, limb salvage, trauma care, wound management, and pediatric podiatry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Austin is an avid supporter of Detroit and Michigan State sports teams. He enjoys snowboarding, playing tennis, and exploring new destinations with his wife, embracing a well-rounded and active lifestyle.
